Start Point

A remote Patamona mountain village experience beneath Wokomung Tepui.

Deep within the Pakaraima Mountains, at the base of Wokomung Tepui, lies the Patamona village of Kopinang, one of the most remote and culturally rich communities in Guyana. This flexible 3–5 day experience takes guests by domestic aircraft directly into the mountains, where waterfalls, ridgelines, traditional farming, and village life define the journey.

This is not a fixed, mass-market itinerary. Kopinang is a remote mountain village where weather, flight schedules, trail conditions, guest interests, and community availability shape the final program. Some guests come for a short cultural and waterfall experience. Others stay longer for hiking, ATV travel, Orinduik Falls, mountain viewpoints, and a deeper look into Patamona life.

Kopinang is known for its dramatic landscapes, waterfalls, and panoramic views across the Pakaraima Mountains. Unlike savannah or river-based trips, this experience is less about abundant wildlife and more about landscape, culture, remoteness, and the rhythm of mountain village life.

The itinerary can be adapted around your interests. It can be softer and more community-based, with village walks, waterfalls, and traditional food, or more active, with longer hikes and ATV-supported excursions into the surrounding mountain country.

However it is shaped, one thing remains the same: this is one of the most remote and genuine community-led travel experiences in Guyana.

“Kopinang is not a place most travellers find by accident. You fly into the mountains, land in the village, and suddenly you are somewhere that feels completely different from the rest of Guyana. What makes this experience special is the flexibility. It can be gentle and cultural, or it can become more active with hiking, waterfalls, ATV routes, and longer days in the landscape. The important thing is that it is hosted by the Patamona people who call Kopinang home. This is not a show built for tourists, it is an invitation into a remote mountain community.”

Explore Kopinang falls

Visit Kopinang Waterfall by foot or with ATV support depending on conditions and guest preference. Spend time swimming, relaxing, and exploring the surrounding forest and cliffs. Day 8-10

Day 11

Final day and departure

Final morning in Kopinang with a short activity, village time, or viewpoint walk before returning to Georgetown by domestic aircraft.

This itinerary is a sample framework. Final routing and activities are adapted around weather, flight schedules, guide availability, guest interests, and community recommendations.

This is not a formal training course, but guests gain insight into Patamona mountain life, traditional farming, cassava processing, village routines, waterfall travel, mountain terrain, local food, and how remote communities live within the Pakaraima landscape. Depending on the itinerary, guests may also learn about trail movement, ATV access, local navigation, traditional agriculture, and the relationship between mountain communities, rivers, farms, and forest resources.
The experience starts and ends in Georgetown, Guyana, with domestic flights to and from Kopinang. Flights are weather-dependent and can be affected by mountain cloud cover, rain, and visibility. Guests should build flexibility into their Guyana itinerary, especially if connecting to international flights. A buffer day after the Kopinang experience is strongly recommended. Accommodation is in village guesthouse-style lodging. This is a remote community experience, not a luxury lodge. Guests should expect simple comfort, local food, mountain weather, and a slower pace of life. Bring lightweight clothing, sturdy footwear, a light rain jacket, insect repellent, personal medication, camera equipment, and swimwear for waterfalls. A full packing list is provided after booking.
