Start Point

Traditional rainforest skills, taught by Makushi instructors at a pace that works for anyone.

This 6-day jungle survival experience is based at Rock Landing jungle camp near Surama Village in the North Rupununi. It offers a relaxed and accessible introduction to traditional rainforest survival skills, taught by experienced Makushi instructors in a real jungle setting.

Unlike the full jungle survival course, this experience is not built around a solo phase or a physical test. It is designed for guests who want to learn, explore, and experience jungle life without committing to a longer and more demanding survival programme. It works well for solo travellers, couples, families, private groups, and guests who are curious about traditional skills and rainforest living.

From Rock Landing, guests learn practical forest skills such as fire-lighting with natural materials, fishing, basic foraging, bow-and-arrow shooting, safe tool use, and camp craft. Activities are hands-on, educational, and adapted to the group’s age, comfort level, and interests.

Alongside the skills training, there is time to enjoy the surrounding rainforest and river systems. Short forest walks, wildlife observation, campfire cooking, and evenings in hammocks create a genuine jungle experience without making the trip overly demanding.

This is the ideal introduction for guests who want a taste of survival, culture, wildlife, and jungle camp life in one of Guyana’s most beautiful rainforest regions.

“This experience was created for people who are curious about jungle survival, but do not necessarily want to commit to the full survival course or solo phase. Some guests just want a taste of the traditional skills, the camp life, and the feeling of being out in the forest with our team in Surama. We have hosted families, couples, solo travellers, and small groups who simply wanted to try what all the talk was about. It is relaxed, practical, and hands-on, but still gives you a real connection to the forest and the people who know it best.”
