Start Point

Mountain jungle survival, taught where the terrain fights back.

Deep within the Pakaraima Mountains, at the foot of Wokomung Tepui, the Patamona people have adapted to one of Guyana’s most demanding rainforest environments. This is not lowland jungle survival. The terrain is steeper, food is less predictable, movement costs more energy, and camp systems must be efficient from the beginning.

The Tepui Jungle Survival Course is a 7-day immersive mountain jungle training experience delivered with Patamona forest guides from Kopinang. Participants establish and operate a functional survival base camp, manage continuous fire, build sleeping structures, harvest forest food sources, work with natural materials, and adapt to elevated jungle microclimates.

This course is practical, physical, and direct. You are not there to observe demonstrations. You are there to live the systems: machete work on slopes, camp construction, fire management, bush rope, medicinal and edible plants, frog trapping, small fish methods, manicole palm, and the forest diet available in this specific mountain environment.

The food reality is part of the learning. Expect a diet shaped by what the forest gives: frogs, smaller fish, forest plants, manicole palm, edible mushrooms where available, and traditional preparations used by the Patamona. Comfort is not removed for effect; comfort is replaced by competence, routine, and teamwork.

For those ready, the course can culminate in an optional 24-hour solo phase under controlled safety oversight. This is a chance to apply your shelter, fire, water, and food systems independently for one full day and night in mountain rainforest terrain.

This is the course for people who want the next step beyond standard jungle survival: steeper ground, fewer easy resources, stronger Indigenous instruction, and a survival environment that demands focus.

“The Tepui Jungle Survival Course is not simply our lowland survival course moved into the mountains. Kopinang is a completely different environment. The slopes, the cooler nights, the food sources, the way people move, and the way Patamona guides read the forest all change the training. This course was built for people who want to understand survival where things are less predictable and less forgiving. You work for your fire, your food, your camp, and your comfort, and that is exactly what makes it such a powerful experience.”

This course is not designed around comfort. It is designed around adaptation, efficiency, and learning how Patamona guides operate in a mountain rainforest environment where resources are harder earned.
The course starts with a domestic flight from Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle, Georgetown, to Kopinang Village. Flights into the Pakaraima Mountains are weather-dependent, so guests should build flexibility into their wider travel plans. This is a hard course. Participants should be comfortable with steep terrain, humidity, physical work, machete use, limited food variety, basic camp conditions, and full participation in daily survival routines. Kopinang is remote. Weather, flight schedules, trail conditions, and local recommendations may affect the final structure of the course. This flexibility is part of operating in a real mountain environment. A full packing list and preparation guidance are sent after booking.
