Start Point

The same remote Rewa waters, with a higher level of support.

The Rewa River remains one of Guyana’s premier freshwater fishing systems, known for productive waters, low fishing pressure, and a remarkable range of tropical species. This Deluxe Fishing Expedition gives guests access to the same remote river system as our classic Rewa fishing trip, but with an enhanced level of camp support, structure, and comfort.

Beginning at Kwatamang Landing, guests travel upriver into the Rewa River system with Indigenous fishing guides and a dedicated support crew. While the guides focus on locating fish and reading the river, the support team manages camp logistics, meals, boat preparation, equipment handling, camp setup, and daily operations.

This is still a remote jungle fishing expedition, not a lodge-based holiday. Guests sleep in prepared river camps and travel deep into rainforest waters, but the day-to-day workload is reduced. Instead of setting camp, managing fires, or breaking down equipment, anglers are free to focus on fishing, eating, resting, and getting ready for the next session.

Fishing locations are selected daily based on water levels, seasonal movement, structure, current, and local guide assessment. Depending on conditions, the expedition may target river bends, submerged timber, deeper channels, productive banks, oxbow lakes, and secondary waterways.

This is the trip for anglers who want serious wilderness fishing without the roughest version of expedition life. Remote water, real jungle, strong local guide knowledge, and a support system built around maximising time on the river.

“The Deluxe Rewa package is for anglers who want the full river experience but not the full camp workload. You still get the remote water, the Indigenous guides, the jungle camps, and the serious fishing, but with a support crew handling the background work. Boats are prepared, meals are cooked, camp is managed, and your time is kept focused on fishing. It is still authentic Rewa, just run with a higher level of support.”

What sets this apart

The reasons anglers choose the deluxe version when they want remote fishing with full support.

Dedicated Support Crew

Boat crew, camp staff, cook, and equipment handlers keep the expedition running in the background, allowing guests to focus on fishing rather than camp logistics.

Indigenous Fishing Guides

Fish with local guides who understand the Rewa River’s water levels, currents, fish behaviour, seasonal patterns, and productive locations.

Trophy Species

Target Peacock Bass, Payara, Arowana, Swordfish, Black Piranha, Tiger Catfish, Redtail Catfish, and other Amazon species depending on season and conditions.

Arapaima Option

Fly fishing for Arapaima may be available under village conservation guidelines, with a separate permit and fly fishing gear rental required.

Premium Camp Setup

Camp areas are prepared and maintained by the support team, with structured meals, organised daily flow, and more comfort than the standard expedition version.

Wildlife Backdrop

The Rewa is also one of Guyana’s richest river corridors, with possible sightings of giant otters, caiman, monkeys, macaws, and river birds during the journey.

Highlights

A glimpse into the river, the species, and the rhythm that defines this deluxe fishing expedition.

Hook A Peacock Bass

Cast for Lukunani in productive Rewa River habitats where explosive strikes, hard fights, and structure-based fishing define the experience.

Cast For Arapaima

Where available under village conservation rules, fly fish for one of the world’s largest freshwater fish in a regulated conservation setting.

Camp Run For You

Meals prepared, boats fuelled, equipment handled, and camp managed by the support crew. You wake up, fish, eat, rest, and fish again.

DETAILS

Everything you need to know
before booking your adventure
Day 1

Arrival at Kwatamang Landing

Arrive at Kwatamang Landing and meet the fishing team. After a welcome briefing and safety orientation, boats are loaded and the journey upriver begins through the Rupununi and Rewa river systems. On arrival at the first riverside camp, the support crew establishes camp while guests prepare for the first fishing session.

Day 2-5

Fishing on the river

Four full days are dedicated to fishing the Rewa River system. Each day begins early, targeting active predatory species along river bends, submerged timber, deeper channels, banks, oxbow lakes, and secondary waterways depending on conditions.

Fishing locations are selected by the local guides based on water levels, current, fish behaviour, weather, and seasonal movement. The camp crew manages meals, camp organisation, boat preparation, and general support so guests can focus on the fishing.

Evenings are spent along the river with prepared meals, time to relax, and the sounds of the jungle around camp. Wildlife sightings may include giant otters, caiman, monkeys, macaws, and river birds.

Day 3-7

Departure from Rewa River

Depending on timing, there may be a final early fishing session before camp is broken down by the crew. Boats are prepared and the group returns downriver to Kwatamang Landing, where onward travel arrangements continue.

Spinning fishing gear is included as part of the package. Guests are also welcome to bring their own rods, reels, lures, leaders, tackle, and preferred fishing equipment. Arapaima fishing may be available as a separate option under village conservation guidelines. This is strictly fly fishing only. Fly fishing gear rental and the Arapaima conservation permit are not included and must be arranged separately. Guests bringing specialist equipment should also bring spare tackle, leaders, lures, hooks, and essential replacements, as the expedition operates far from shops and resupply. The Rewa River system supports a wide range of tropical freshwater species, including Peacock Bass, Payara, Arowana, Swordfish, Black Piranha, Tiger Catfish, Redtail Catfish, and other seasonal species.
The expedition starts and ends at Kwatamang Landing in the North Rupununi. Travel to Kwatamang can be arranged separately or included as part of a complete package. Access options may include overland transfer from Lethem, domestic flights from Georgetown to Lethem, charter flights to Annai, or charter flights to Apoteri for faster river access. Fishing conditions depend heavily on water levels and seasonal patterns. Stable and falling water conditions are often preferred, but exact timing should be discussed when planning the trip. Guests should bring lightweight fishing clothing, sun protection, insect repellent, personal medication, and any preferred fishing equipment. A full packing list is provided after booking.
