Start Point

Professional training for people whose work or passion takes them into the jungle.

The Jungle Expedition Skills Course is a 13-day field-based professional training programme delivered by The Wild Tales in collaboration with Jungle Guides International and the Makushi community of Surama Village. It combines international expedition training standards with Indigenous rainforest knowledge to develop real operational competence in tropical field conditions.

This is not a recreational survival course. Participants train in the systems that make jungle expeditions function: camp management, logistics, navigation, water systems, food planning, communication, safety routines, risk assessment, leadership, and decision-making under environmental pressure.

Training takes place in the North Rupununi rainforest of Guyana, where participants rotate through leadership roles, establish and manage expedition camps, conduct supervised field movements, and complete a participant-led expedition phase. The course is suitable for emerging and experienced professionals working in expedition operations, media production, humanitarian missions, conservation programmes, guide teams, jungle camps, and remote community-based projects.

Graduates receive a certificate issued jointly by Jungle Guides International and The Wild Tales confirming successful completion of the Jungle Expedition Skills Course.

“This course was created for people who need more than jungle exposure. Guides, camp staff, researchers, media crews, humanitarian teams, and expedition leaders all face the same challenge in tropical environments: it is not enough to be tough. You need systems, judgement, communication, and the ability to make decisions when heat, humidity, rain, logistics, and people all become part of the problem. The Jungle Expedition Skills Course is built to develop that competence in the field.”
