The Rewa River remains one of Guyana’s premier freshwater fishing destinations. Reached by boat through the Rupununi River system, this 6-day expedition takes anglers into remote Amazon waters with limited outside pressure and a remarkable diversity of target species.
The journey begins at Kwatamang Landing, where the team loads boats and travels upriver into the Rewa River system. From there, the expedition moves through rainforest, setting mobile river camps and fishing a range of habitats including deep channels, river bends, submerged timber, structure-rich banks, and oxbow lakes when conditions allow.
This is not a lodge-based fishing holiday. It is a stripped-back jungle fishing expedition where guests travel, camp, and fish alongside Indigenous fishing guides. Camp life is simple, practical, and collaborative. Meals are prepared over open fire, often featuring freshly caught fish alongside traditional forest dishes.
Fishing locations and techniques are adapted daily according to water levels, weather, river flow, fish behaviour, and guide recommendations. The aim is not comfort for comfort’s sake. The aim is access — reaching productive water that most visiting anglers will never see.
This expedition is best suited for anglers who value serious fishing, remote water, simple camp life, and the chance to experience one of the least pressured river systems in the Amazon basin.

Arrival Kwatamang
Arrive at Kwatamang Landing and meet the fishing team. After a full safety briefing and orientation, boats are loaded and the expedition travels through the Rupununi River system toward the Rewa. By afternoon, camp is established on the riverbank and the first fishing session begins.
Fishing on Rewa River
Four full days are dedicated to fishing the Rewa River system. Each day is shaped around water levels, fish activity, weather, and guide recommendations. The team targets river bends, submerged timber, deep channels, structure-rich banks, and oxbow lakes when conditions allow. Camps may shift along the river to keep the group close to productive fishing grounds.
Evenings are spent in simple river camps, with meals prepared over fire and time to fish from camp or relax along the river. Wildlife sightings may include giant otters, caiman, monkeys, macaws, and river birds.
Rock Landing Training Camp
Boats are loaded early and the expedition returns down the Rewa and Rupununi river systems to Kwatamang Landing. The trip concludes at Kwatamang, where onward travel arrangements continue.
