Join this 13-day Jungle Bushcraft Course in Guyana and experience life in one of the world’s most biodiverse rainforests. Developed in partnership with Back to Wilderness UK and expert instructors from the Makushi community, this course goes beyond general survival training. It is a practical introduction to traditional forest craft, resource use, and jungle living.
You will handcraft your own bow and arrows, weave traditional rucksacks, light fires using natural materials, learn machete techniques, identify useful forest resources, fish, cook, travel, and live in the rainforest. Throughout the course, you work side by side with Indigenous instructors and international bushcraft experts in both training camps and remote expedition-style camps.
No prior experience is required. The course is designed for bushcraft enthusiasts, nature lovers, cultural explorers, adventure travellers, and anyone who wants to learn practical jungle skills in the environment where they still matter.

Arrival in Georgetown
Welcome to Guyana. Meet your instructors and fellow participants at the hotel in Georgetown. Relaxed evening to rest, recover from travel, and share expectations for the adventure ahead.
Journey to Surama Eco-Lodge
Early domestic flight from Georgetown to the Rupununi region, followed by a scenic drive through savannahs and rainforest to Surama Eco-Lodge. Welcomed by the Makushi community, introduced to your instructors, and issued your jungle kit. Orientation and dinner at the lodge.
Rock Landing Training Camp
Hike into the forest to Rock Landing Camp, the base for your training. The rainforest becomes your classroom. Under Makushi instructors and international bushcraft experts, you’ll learn hammock and tarp setup, fire-lighting with natural materials, safe machete use, fishing, and bow-and-arrow making. Each day focuses on a different element of jungle living — resource identification, trap setting, rope-making, camp hygiene.
Deep Jungle Bushcraft Expedition
Everything into practice. The group moves deeper into the forest to set up expedition-style camps — self-sufficient and surrounded by pristine wilderness. Gather natural materials to build shelters, manage fire, cook wild food, and apply advanced trapping, fishing, and weaving methods. Days might include shooting fish with your handmade bow, gathering palm leaves for weaving, or joining instructors on a night walk.
Return to Surama
Break camp and return by river and foot to Surama. Rest, clean gear, and celebrate with a small farewell gathering — meals, stories, and laughter shared with your instructors. Reflection session, and participants receive NCFE-accredited certification.
Return to Georgetown
Travel back to Georgetown by flight and overland transfer. Final evening together for a well-earned rest and local dinner.
Departure
After breakfast, transfer to the airport or continue your travels. You leave Guyana with new bushcraft skills, lasting friendships, and a deeper connection to one of Earth’s last wild frontiers.
