No. Previous bushcraft, survival or expedition experience is not required to join our Skills & Bushcraft courses.
Having some outdoor experience can certainly be useful, but the courses are designed to teach and develop the required skills progressively. Our instructors and indigenous guides will demonstrate techniques, give you time to practise and help you build your abilities throughout the course.
More experienced participants can also benefit by developing skills specifically adapted to the tropical rainforest and learning directly from people who have grown up using these skills in Guyana’s interior.
Yes. Our Skills & Bushcraft courses can be particularly relevant for people working—or hoping to work—in outdoor education, guiding, expeditions, bushcraft, survival training and other wilderness-related professions.
The training and certification can demonstrate relevant practical development and strengthen a professional CV or résumé. However, completing one of our courses does not by itself qualify someone for a particular profession or replace any licenses, qualifications, or experience required by an employer or regulatory body.
We also welcome participants who have no professional ambitions at all. Many join simply because they want to develop a deeper and more practical understanding of living and travelling in the rainforest.
The two courses have different objectives.
The Jungle Bushcraft Course focuses primarily on practical jungle and traditional skills. It is about developing your ability to work with the rainforest, use tools and natural resources, and learn techniques alongside our indigenous guides and instructors.
The Jungle Expedition Skills Course is more focused on how to travel, work and operate effectively as part of an expedition in remote tropical environments. It covers the practical skills and systems needed when moving through the jungle rather than concentrating solely on bushcraft.
Both are hands-on courses, but if your main interest is bushcraft and traditional skills, the Jungle Bushcraft Course is the natural choice. If your interest is expedition travel and operating professionally or independently in remote environments, the Expedition Skills Course is likely the better fit.
