Our horse-riding adventure holiday escorts you through the Rupununi Savannah in Guyana. Here, you will encounter historic ranches, traditional Amerindian villages, and grasslands interspersed with pristine creeks and lakes. Surrounded by jungle-clad mountains, you’ll feel like you’ve entered a completely different world.

The cattle ranches of the Rupununi plains have stood for centuries. The Dadanawa Ranch, at one point the largest ranch in the world, sprawled across a staggering 13,000 square kilometres (approximately 3.3 million acres). This region, steeped in history, whispers tales of outlaws like Frank James, older brother of Jesse James, who roamed the savannah in the 1800s.

Our trail-riding holiday transports you from A to B in grand style. Your journey begins at Saddle Mountain Ranch, roughly 3 hours south of the border town of Lethem. Here, we’ll familiarise you with your horse and provide expert tips on how to ride like a local. Accompanied by local vaqueros and a knowledgeable Wild Tales guide, you’ll then set off into the savannah.

You’ll spend several hours on horseback and in dense bush daily. Each day concludes at a new village or ranch, where you’ll spend the night in a hammock beneath the stars or a cosy community lodge. Fall asleep to macaws and monkeys.

Our trail-riding holiday is a bespoke trip, running only during the dry season (from October to April). We require at least three participants to arrange the trip – but if you’re a solo traveller eager to join, please get in touch. We may be able to pair you with other like-minded explorers keen to traverse the savannah!
