How to Thrive On Our Jungle Survival Courses

How to thrive on our jungle survival courses. Taking part in a jungle survival course is a challenge – there’s no denying that. The Amazon Rainforest is one of the Earth’s most extreme environments, and spending a holiday here isn’t something to be entered into on a whim.

So how can you be sure that you’ll get the most out of your survival course, and how can you make sure you really thrive during your time in the jungle?

Here we’ve listed a few things you’ll need if you want to get maximum enjoyment from your jungle survival experience. Have a look and see whether you think it’s the right choice for you.

WILLINGNESS & A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

It’s so important when you’re entering the jungle that you actually want to have this experience. If your friends have invited you to join them but you’re just not sure it’s for you, you’re probably not going to enjoy it as much as people who are really keen to push themselves and face this kind of challenge.

It’s also worth remembering that our jungle survival courses involve an isolation phase. During this time, you’ll be entirely on your own in the heart of the rainforest, with nobody to keep you company or help you out when things get tough.

If you weren’t that keen on coming in the first place, then this is obviously not going to be much fun! But if you’ve always wanted to experience a real-life survival situation, with the right training and a new skillset, then this will be the opportunity of a lifetime.

If you come to our jungle survival courses with the right attitude, you’re going to have a fantastic time. It’ll be a challenge, yes – but that’s the point. It’s an amazing chance to learn new skills and see exactly what you’re capable of.

ACTIVE LISTENING SKILLS

During the training phase of the survival course, it’s essential that you pay close attention to everything your instructor tells you. It might sound obvious, but by actively listening and engaging with wh at they’re saying, you’ll get far more out of the experience – and they are experts, after all!

Remember that you’re going to find yourself in a really challenging environment. It’s likely that you haven’t done this kind of thing before, but even if you have, your expert guide could teach you something you’d never thought of.

We want everyone on our survival courses and other excursions to enjoy themselves, but it’s also our job to make sure you’re as safe as possible. We aren’t going to treat you like schoolchildren – we won’t be giving you detention if you get an answer wrong. But you’re here to learn practical survival skills that could save your life in a dangerous situation, so pay close attention.

BASIC FITNESS

Surviving in the jungle requires a lot of physical activity. You’ll be trekking, climbing and building shelters, starting fires and finding your own food. It’s physical work, so you’ll want a fairly good level of fitness if you don’t want to struggle.

We’re not saying you need to be ultrafit – you don’t need a particularly low resting heartrate or a bodybuilder’s level of strength. But if you think you might struggle with the physicality of the survival courses, we recommend you start getting in shape with plenty of time for your excursion.
